Guilin 3-Day Solo Traveler Itinerary
Guilin is a solo traveler's dream — spectacular scenery, affordable food, easy transport, and endless paths to explore at your own pace. This three-day itinerary takes you beyond the tour-bus routes to discover hidden viewpoints, quiet village trails, and the authentic countryside that makes this region unforgettable. Cycle through rice paddies, hike to panoramic peaks, and meet locals in off-path villages.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Sunrise Walk at Elephant Trunk Hill
Beat the crowds with an early morning visit to Elephant Trunk Hill. At dawn, the hill is reflected perfectly in the still river water, and you will likely have the place almost to yourself. Photograph the iconic silhouette against the pink sky, then explore the riverside path.
Breakfast: Guilin Rice Noodles at a Back-Street Shop
Skip the tourist restaurants and find a local rice noodle shop in the alleys near Nanhuan Road. Look for shops packed with locals eating standing up — that is where the best mifen is. Order the dry-toss version (ganban mifen) for the most authentic experience. Cost is under 10 yuan.
Climb Fubo Hill (Wave-Subduing Hill)
A lesser-known hill right on the Li River bank with steep steps leading to a pavilion at the top. The 360-degree view of Guilin's karst peaks rising from the flat city below is the best free viewpoint in town. The hill also has a cave with ancient Buddhist carvings dating back over 1,000 years.
Lunch at Zhengyang Pedestrian Street
Grab lunch at one of the small restaurants along Zhengyang Road. As a solo traveler, try a hotpot-for-one place or a rice set meal (gaifan). The pedestrian street also has Guilin's best supermarket for grabbing snacks and water for the next day's adventures.
Reed Flute Cave
Explore this 240-meter underground limestone cave filled with stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations. The multicolored lighting creates an otherworldly atmosphere. As a solo visitor, you can take your time lingering at the most impressive chambers without hurrying to keep up with a group.
Evening at East-West Lane & Night Market
Wander through Guilin's renovated historic quarter, East-West Lane (Dongxi Xiang), for street food and evening ambiance. Try local snacks like osmanthus-flavored desserts, oil tea, and grilled tofu. The lanes come alive at night with lanterns and buskers, perfect for solo wandering.
